1998 Women's Review
The women once again captured second place at the 1998 SSC Championships. The Tars finished with a team score of 70, five points ahead of third place Eckerd College. Leading the women all season and in the conference meet was Freshmen Allison Nichols . Nichols finished eighth overall with a time of 25:04 to earn second team All-SSC honors. Sophomore Kirsten Palacios finished in tenth position with a time of 27:20 and also earned second team All-SSC honors. Freshman Alice Beaver finished in 13th position with a time of 27:20. The second place finish proved even more satisfying as the squad advanced to the NCAA Southeast Regionals in Atlanta, Georgia. In the regional meet the women were again led by Nichols as they posted a solid 14th place finish.
1998 Men's Review
The men finished fourth at the 1998 Sunshine State Conference Championships. Leading the men's team all season were Senior's Chris Boynton and Mike Gebo along with Junior Brian Kilpatrick. Providing depth for the Tars were freshmen Ron Iammartino and TR Parker. Brian Kilpatrick led the men in the SSC with a personal-best 10K time of 37:40 to finish in 11th position overall. Chris Boynton placed 17th overall and Mike Gebo placed 18th. These three men also advanced to the NCAA Southeast Regionals in Atlanta, Gerogia. In the regional meet. Chris Boynton ran the 10K race in a time of 36:37. Brian Kilpatrick and Mike Gebo ran a time of 36:50 and 38:08 respectively. All three times are personal bests for the runners.
